Hazel studied the bassoon at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where she gained a degree in music and a diploma in Professional Performance. On leaving the conservatoire she was appointed Sub-Principal Bassoon with the world famous Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra between 1993 and 2002. Whilst in the orchestra she toured all over the world, playing for many famous conductors and performing in the Royal Albert Hall at the Proms and also in the Musicverien in Vienna!
Upon leaving the orchestra she then embarked upon a freelance career and regularly performs with all the orchestras in the North West, including appearing as guest principal with the Hallé and Manchester Camerata.
In the summer of 2013 she reached the dizzy heights of performing the whole of Wagner Parsifal with the Hallé orchestra at the Proms! She also has a fruitful teaching career too with over 100 pupils, of which only 3 are bassoons!
