Nichola Hunter

Nichola was born in Southport, Lancashire and started her musical studies at Chethams School of Music, Manchester , initially playing the oboe before changing to flute. She later studied at Bretton Hall College in Yorkshire, and then at the Royal Northern College of Music, with Trevor Wye, Kate Hill, and Colin Chambers, and on piccolo with Patricia Morris.


She has taken part in many flute master classes with well known flautists, including James Galway, William Bennett, Geoffrey Gilbert, and Aureole Nicolet.


Nichola is a freelance musician, playing flute, piccolo, and alto flute, and has a busy, successful career working with many of the major British orchestras, including the BBC Philharmonic, Hallé and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.


Nichola has performed many solo concerti, and has given recital concerts all over Great Britain. She also enjoys working in chamber music groups and has appeared on television (regularly on Songs of Praise ), and on radio. Nichola is co-principal flute with the Northern Chamber Orchestra, with whom she has performed as soloist, and made several highly acclaimed CD recordings. Nichola is a core player with Sinfonia Viva , who are based in the East Midlands and greatly enjoys the wide spectrum of varied music they perform.


Nichola also combines her freelance performing with a busy teaching career too, working with all ages and abilities of students.


She has taken part in many Education Projects with various music services in different regions of the UK.
