A Grand Day Out at Chester Cathedral - Monday 16 February

Step into a world of wonder beneath Luke Jerram’s breathtaking Moon installation at Chester Cathedral for a truly unforgettable family day out. Following our much-loved, annual sell-out performances of The Snowman at Chester Cathedral, we are delighted to return this half-term for this magical celebration of our lunar neighbour.

At the heart of the day will be special screenings of Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out, with the iconic soundtrack performed live by our amazing professional musicians as they bring Nick Park’s much-loved classic thrillingly to life. Families can also choose to take part in an optional Moon-themed creative workshop, with clay stations where children can make their own moon-inspired plasticine characters. After each performance, you’ll also have the chance to meet the musicians, and have your photograph taken with Wallace & Gromit.

About Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out

Fans of Aardman will love this screening of the classic film Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out, accompanied live by our ensemble of musicians.

In Nick Park’s first film featuring the famous duo, Wallace and Gromit set off on an extraordinary adventure when their search for cheese leads them all the way to the Moon. After a few mishaps with their homemade rocket, they land just in time for lunch — but a mysterious mechanical inhabitant is not quite as welcoming as they expect...

Enjoy the Museum of the Moon Installation

The Museum of the Moon is a renowned, touring art installation by the UK artist, Luke Jerram. Created in 2016, it was first unveiled at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, and has since been exhibited in approximately 40 countries, suspended both indoors and outdoors in public spaces, cathedrals and at festivals.

From Thursday 12 February to Sunday 15 March 2026 The Museum of the Moon installation will be coming to Chester Cathedral for the very first time!

Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.

It truly is the perfect place for A Grand Day Out and we look forward to welcoming our audiences to Chester Cathedral on Monday 16 February, 2026.

This show has been specially designed to give families the perfect chance to enjoy time together during the half-term holidays!” Rachel Whibley, Managing Director, Carrot Productions
