Have you ever dreamed of singing with a live orchestra? This year, you can!

We’re inviting everyone seeing The Snowman Tour 2025 to join us in a mass audience singalong of Walking in the Air at the end of each show, accompanied by our amazing orchestra.

“To mark the 40th anniversary of Walking in the Air, we’re bringing together schools, choirs, and people who love music from every corner of the country to perform this iconic song in a shared moment of music, unity, and festive cheer.” Aled Jones

Aled Jones and Classic FM are encouraging a nationwide singalong of Walking in the Air to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Aled's recording of the Christmas classic. Schools, choirs, organisations, and even individuals are being invited to join in with The Big Christmas Chorus this December, and perform Walking in the Air at a time to suit them.

As Aled says, "It’s more than just a singalong, it’s a chance to raise your voices and raise funds for Classic FM's official charity Make Some Noise, supporting people across the UK through life’s toughest challenges. Helping people through homelessness, mental health struggles, loneliness and more."

With audiences totalling over 26,000 people during this year's tour, we had to be part of the action!

Join The Big Christmas Chorus

Whether you are coming to one of our shows and want to join in, or simply want to sing or sign along at home, you can find all you need to learn Walking in the Air on our website:

Singalong

Why not sing along with the wonderful Cormac Thompson and our incredible musician in this very special video? All parts were recorded from the musicians' homes during the pandemic. Did you know Rudolf could play the bassoon, or that Father Christmas was a master of the double bass? You may also spot pets and penguins, tractors, turkeys and trampolines! Our musicians are are a very game bunch!

Signalong

We are also delighted that Sean Chandler – deaf trumpet player and star of Musical Storyland on CBeebies – has created a video to teach you how to sign the lyrics in British Sign Language (BSL).

At the end of each performance on The Snowman Tour, we will do a mass-performance of the song. The lyrics and the video of Sean signing will be played on our big screens - so there's no memorising necessary, and you can just have a go. Enthusiasm rather than perfectionism is the name of the game!

Whether you choose to sing, sign, or simply soak up the atmosphere, you’ll be part of a truly moving and memorable moment to celebrate the magic of Christmas.

Donate to Make Some Noise

In addition to raising our voices, we also hope to raise lots of funds for Make Some Noise. There will be collection buckets available at all venues, and you can also donate online.

When we heard that Classic FM and their charity, Make Some Noise, had decided to feature Walking in the Air for their Big Christmas Chorus, we knew we had to join in!Rachel Whibley, Managing Director, Carrot Productions

Walking in the Air

Smiling person, Aled Jones, in a blue shirt and dark blazer stands against a light gray background with diagonal lines, conveying a cheerful mood.

This iconic Christmas song, composed by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film, The Snowman, was originally recorded by Peter Auty, then a choir boy at St Paul's Cathedral. The film, with its incredible music score, quickly became a classic, with Walking in the Air becoming synonymous with the film. The song was recorded for use in a Christmas advert for a well-known toy shop. At that point, Howard Blake is believed to have recommended the Welsh boy soprano, Aled Jones, for the solo. It was released as a single, reaching No. 5 in the charts in December 1985. Now, 40 years later, the song still regularly polls amongst the top Christmas tunes.
