Pride Classical - Show Reel
Thousands of people gathered in the sunshine on the waterfront at Pier Head, Liverpool to enjoy over 40 of the top pride anthems from the last fifty years, performed by our four outstanding headline artists, backing singers and our incredible 32-piece orchestra, conducted by the fabulous, sequined George Morton!
Headline Artists:
Jake Shears
Lead singer of Scissor Sisters, Jake Shears performed the band's tracks, including: I don't feel like dancing, Filthy/Gorgeous, Mary and Take Your Mama. A dynamic, multi-talented artist from Arizona, Jake made his Broadway debut in 2017 in Kinky Boots, as well as co-writing the 2022 award-winning musical, Tammy Faye. Jake has just finished a run in West End in the role of Emcee in the award-winning production of Cabaret.
Alison Jiear
The incredible West End star, Alison Jiear, with five solo albums along with a Laurence Olivier Award Nomination for Best Actress in a Musical to her credit, is the original voice of cult dance hit I Just Wanna F**king Dance from Jerry Springer the Opera - and the crowds were delighted when she belted that anthem out!
Ashford Campbell
Ashford came to the public's attention in the 2011 series of X-Factor, but he is also an accomplished actor and musical theatre star, with a number of West End credits, including: The Drifters Girl (Garrick Theatre) and Dwayne in 9-5 The Musical (Savoy Theatre). TV credits include Prince Andrew: The Musical and My Parents are Aliens.
Danny Beard
The evening was compered by incomparable local legend, Danny Beard. Danny's big break came in 2022 when they won Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Since then, they have been in huge demand, touring countrywide, headlining Pride festivals, hosting a weekly podcast and using their platform to inspire and encourage others to embrace their true selves.
“Ground breakimg!”
Our Orchestra
Our 32-strong orchestra, comprising majority LGBTQ+ musicians alongside allies, features some of the best musicians from the UK's top orchestras.
“I’ve experienced a lot of discrimination in the past, just for being who I am. It means so much to me to let myself be free and feel proud and fabulous!” Musician, Pride Classical
Set List
Alison Jiear explained, "Everyone’s got a song that means something special. The song from a wedding or civil partnership, the song that played for a first dance at a gay bar, the soundtrack to a first kiss. A song that made us feel proud of ourselves." Pride Classical showcases these songs, with over 40 different pride anthems featured, from classics such as I will survive, It's a sin, It's raining men and I am what I am through to newer hits such as Flowers, Escapism and Dance the night away.
Sign Language Interpretation - Andy Higgins
The unstoppable Andy Higgins provided BSL interpretation for the entire evening, signing and dancing along to every anthem. Not only did he add a great deal to the event, making it more accessible for the audience, he also personally managed to achieve well over 20,000 steps!
