Following more than 170 auditions held over the past month, we are thrilled to announce that 28 wonderful young singers have now been chosen to sing solos on The Snowman Tour, 2024.
Of the young singers chosen, 24 will perform the iconic 'Walking in the Air' during the screening of The Snowman, with a further 4 performing Once in Royal David's City at our Oldham, Derby and Buxton venues. You can see a full list of the singers chosen for each venue below.
“To date, we have given over 250 children this opportunity, with many telling us that it was a pivotal and momentous experience they will never forget. We’re incredibly proud of each and every one of them” Rachel Whibley, Managing Director, Carrot Productions
Uniquely, we offer children living close to the venues the chance to perform alongside our wonderful orchestra of professional musicians in front of hundreds of people.
Accessible auditions
One of our key aims at Carrot Productions is to help break-down barriers so that meaningful musical experiences are available to all – whether as a performer, participant in our interactive shows or audience member. For this reason, our auditions are open to all children aged 7-17. We provide those wishing to audition with the sheet music, lyrics and two backing tracks (one with a vocal track and an orchestral backing track) to help them prepare for the audition.
Some of the auditions are run by the local music service or the Cathedral, but the majority are run directly by us. Over the past month, we have travelled the country to different venues, and it has been lovely to see how talented, confident and joyful these young singers have been. The standard has been incredibly high, and it was especially tricky choosing the soloists. this year Everyone who auditioned should be incredibly proud of themselves.
“The standard of the singing at the auditions this year has been incredible - the highest we have ever seen over the past twelve years! We can't wait to hear them sing with the orchestra.” Emma Dixon, Education and Outreach Manager, Carrot Productions
Our soloists
In the coming weeks we will showcase some of the singers on our website, socials and in news items. For now, it is a great pleasure to introduce you to three of our singers performing at some of the first few shows!
Lea Fleur - Stockport
My name is Lea, and I’m 10 years old. I love reading comics, watching Bluey, and playing Roblox with my brother.
I started to sing when I was 4 years old. I have been part of my school's choir for two years, and last year, we even participated in the Young Voices concert – it was incredible!
In May, I took part in the school's talent show and sang "Fix You" by my favorite band, Coldplay and I came in second place!
I’m always smiling and I try to be kind to everyone. I’m also very brave and determined – once I set my mind on something, I keep going until I make it happen!
What I’m most excited about my upcoming solo performance is that I’ll be singing with a live orchestra for the first time. It makes me feel like I'm a superstar!
Freddie Fryer-Bovill - Wimbledon
My name is Freddie Fryer-Bovill and I'm 10. I am in year 6 at St George's School, Windsor Castle, where I am lucky enough to be a full-time chorister. We rehearse every morning and afternoon, on either side of the school day, for the (seven!) services we sing each week. It is honestly amazing singing with the lay-clerks and organists in that incredible chapel. Our conductor teaches us so much. Around Christmas especially, we have lots of extra fun activities, like the gingerbread house contest, going to Windsor on Ice, or private screenings at The Old Court.
My other hobbies are mainly sport related. I particularly love football and am a keen supporter of The Gunners. (I like the fact my cassock is the same colours as my Arsenal kit.) I do love cricket too - and I find it relaxing. Outside school, my family is everything to me, except also my 2 dogs, Gustav and Claude.
Hazel Hopkins - Derby
Hazel Hopkins is one of the soloists singing Walking in the Air in Derby.
Hazel is 8 years old. She loves singing, especially musical theatre. She is a member of the local theatre company, Bowden Theatre Works, and she recently played Molly in the show ‘Annie’ at New Mills Arts Theatre.
This will be the first time she has sung with an orchestra. Hazel is excited to meet the musicians and perform with them.
Book your tickets now to hear Lea, Freddie, Hazel or another of our young soloists perform, and give them your support!
