Daniel Whibley: Artistic Director, Composer and Arranger
Daniel Whibley is a composer and arranger, and until recently a double bass player in the BBC Philharmonic.
In 2018 Daniel was commissioned by Aardman to produce scores and parts for all 4 Wallace & Gromit films. Few scores existed, so this involved notating by ear from limited handwritten notes and cues from the original film sessions. Aardman also commissioned him to create additional material for Wallace & Gromit in Concert, and in 2023 he arranged the score of ‘Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas’ for live performance, alongside the creation of a brand new Shaun the Sheep show featuring film and orchestra.
He is regularly commissioned by the BBC – including writing music for the 2022 CBeebies Prom and family concerts – and was recently commissioned to create 10 programmes for CBeebies: Musical Storyland.
During lockdown he composed and arranged many pieces for the BBC Philharmonic musicians to record remotely, including David Bowie’s Sound and Vision, Lisa Stansfield’s All Around the World, a Tom Jones Medley for his 80th birthday, and Evan Hansen’s You Will Be Found for BBC Children in Need. Daniel composed a beautiful orchestration of Paul Harvey’s improvised piano piece, Four Notes, which was released as a charity single in November 2020 and has raised more than £1 million for Dementia charities and projects.
He is regularly commissioned by the BBC – including writing music for the 2022 CBeebies Prom and family concerts – and was recently commissioned to create 10 programmes for CBeebies: Musical Storyland.
In 2023 he was commissioned by the BBC to arrange 5 pieces – featured on Petroc Trelawny’s radio 3 show in November – to celebrate 100 years of the BBC.
Daniel also writes for Carrot Productions, creating exciting and engaging family shows, including collaborations with foremost British creatives and artists, including Joanna Lumley. Recent commissions include Terry Pratchett’s ‘The Amazing Maurice’, staged at Alexandra Palace, London, the creation of a fully orchestral version of ‘The Snowman and the Snowdog’ for Penguin, and all the music for Pride Classical.
He is currently arranging and writing all the content for Stand By For Action! 2, and adaptations of Cinderella and Goldilocks for smaller ensemble.
